Obituary ASHBURTON GUARDIAN, VOLUME 58, ISSUE 49, 7 DECEMBER 1937, PAGE 4 Text: MR WILLIAM HENRY FRITH. (Per Press Association.; OAMARTJ, This Day. Mr William Henry Frith died this morning, aged 83. He was born at Batley, Yorkshire, and educated at Little Falls Academy, United States. He came to New Zealand in 1875 by the ship Invercargill and arrived at Oamaru in 1876. Mr Frith was a member of the Oamaru Borough Council for over 30 years and was Mayor for four years during the war. He also served for periods as member of the Harbour Board, Waitaki High School Board and Waitaki Power Board, and was president of the North Otago Justices Association. He was district coroner, till recently. Mr Frith twice represented the South Island on the Council of the Protestant Alliance Society. On one occasion Mr Frith contested the Oamaru seat against the Hon. T. W. Hislop, but was defeated.
