The picture posted on this profile has been mis-identified as Louise Frobisher 100's of times on Ancestry. It is actually Marie Cardinal Marie (Cardinal) Gariepy (1832-aft.1900) . The original uncropped version is attached to her profile. I have been in touch with the original poster of the image who originally posted it in 2011 on Ancestry. Her family is in possession of the original photograph. Her grandfather, Jerome Gardipee, was Marie's grandson and the picture has been passed down through the years. Please remove the picture. If you don't mind you could add me as a manager and I'll prevent this from happening again. With the number of wrong versions on Ancestry it is bound to happen again.

If she really did marry in 1844, have two children, and die in 1875 then it is most unlikely that she was born in 1772.

Probably two people have been conflated. A plausible explanation is that Thomas had a daughter Louise, and also a son Joseph Martin Frobisher whose daughter married Joseph Cardinal. However, another source says that Louise married him at Lac Ste Anne, NWT, on 14 Nov. 1814, he being aged over 50 at the time. In that case the children born before 1800 and ascribed to Louise were probably by a previous wife. It looks like a grand mix-up!

Louise Lizette Frobisher and Joseph Soldat Cardinal entered into a country marriage "à la façon du pays" before 1795, decades before they were married by a priest in 1844. Country marriages were the norm in Western Canada in the 1700s and early 1800s because the Church had not yet arrived in the region. Joseph Soldat Cardinal and Louise Lizette Frobisher had 7 children. You can refer to Company Men Vol 27. Joseph Soldat Cardinal and Jacques Cardinal by Gail Morin for a the names of their children and the sources.
