Hazel was born in 1910. She was an American Dancer and Actress. She is best remembered for her role as the vivacious Corinne Palmer, in "Down to Their Last Yacht" (1934). She began her career as a beauty pageant contestant who won the titles of Miss Long Island and Miss United States in the Paris International Beauty Pageant of 1926 (she was 16 years old). She performed as a showgirl in New York City at the age of 17. She was working for Florenz Ziegfield, starring as one of the "Ziegfeld Girls" she was a showgirl. Theatre producer Earl Carroll noticed her, and hired her, due to her blonde good looks, hourglass figure, and distinctive voice. He arranged for her to star as leading lady in the musical, "Rosalie" (1928). From there she went on to flourish as an actress, appearing in over 80 productions.

Hazel was born to a father, who was a coal salesman. Her mother was a housewife.[1]

In 1929, she married, an automobile salesman, Harry Judson, she was 19. They divorced the following year.

In 1931, she married, Paul Richmond, heir to a toothpaste fortune. He died in less than a year after they were married. She was left with $2.2 million.

In 1938 she married, vaudeville singer, playboy, nightclub performer, Harry Richman. They divorced after 3 years.

In 1943, she married Charles Eberly, her fourth and final marriage. They divorce after 2 years.

Hazel had her name legally changed in 1943. She liked the name Hazel Forbes, because it was shorter and easier to remember and say.

Hazel was in lots of films, including:

  • 1928 Whoopee
  • 1928 Rosalie
  • 1929 Harry Rosenthal and His Bath and Tennis Orchestra
  • 1930 Simple Simon
  • 1930 The Flight
  • 1930 Seeing-Off Service
  • 1932 Steel
  • 1934 Bachelor Bait, If This Isn't Love, Down to Their Last Yacht

She received a number of threatening letters which dissuaded her from continuing in motion pictures. She donated her salary as a movie extra to charity because of the money that was willed to her by her late husband, Richmond.

She spent her time, after her retirement in 1948, dividing time between her homes in New York City, and Brentwood, California. She was a generous benefactor for several public libraries and schools. She was involved in charitable and religious causes up until her death.[2]

She passed away in 1980.
