Biography

Anna Mary was born in 1793.

Her father William Froneberger died in 1803 when she was about ten years old. He left the plantation to his three sons, and left eighty dollars silver to each of his three daughters to be given when they came of age: Anna Mary, Barbara, and Susey. His wife Catherine was named as executor.[1]

Anna Mary married George Sellers in 1818. The marriage bond was filed 18 March 1818.[2]

She and George had one daughter and eight sons before his death around 1836.

  • Elizabeth, (12 Nov 1818 - ?), never married
  • Eli, (5 Oct 1819 - 1902), m Martha Lackey 1868
  • Philip, (1821 - ?), m Mary Ann Lackey 1856
  • William Monroe, (1823 - 1976), m Mary Ann Neill
  • Abraham, (12 Oct 1824 - 29 Sep 1864), m Easter Caroline Stroup
  • George Lee, (1828 - 22 July 1864), m Elizabeth Catherine Hagar
  • Jacob, (1829 - 27 July 1862)
  • Newton, (5 Dec 1830 - 10 Nov 1900), m Mary Emmaline Hagar
  • Daniel, (1834 - 1864), m Nancy Sparrow

She appears in the 1840 census as Anna M Sellers (next door to brother-in-law Philip Sellers). She would be the female, age 40-50. The male listed 20-30 is almost certainly Eli (age 21) and the female listed age 20-30 would have been her only daughter Elizabeth. The census also lists 2 boys, 15-20 (most likely William and Abraham); 2 boys 10-15 (probably Jacob and George); and 2 boys 5-10 (probably Newton and Daniel). The one missing son would almost certainly be Philip, who in later censuses appears with his uncle Philip. [3]

In 1850 she is again listed as the head of the household with Eli, Abraham, George, Jacob, Newt, and Daniel all still living at home.[4]

In 1860 she has living with her daughter Elizabeth (who previously had been keeping house for her uncle Philip and who never married), Eli, Newt and Daniel.[5]

She died 27 November 1869 and is buried in the Froneberger family cemetery in Bessemer City, Gaston County, North Carolina. [6][7]
