Biography
Mary Catherine Funkhouser was born in Shenandoah County, Virginia, 1840, daughter of Joseph Funkhouser and Christina Neff, married John W. Palmer, a widower with five children and lived at Port Republic in eastern Rockingham County, where her husband owned considerable property, including a store. Mary Catherine was mother of six children, herself, in addition to being a mother to five step children.
