Biography

Wiley was born 10 March 1884 in Transylvania County, North Carolina. He was the son of Rufus Galloway and Hester Reid. He may have been Ada Monteith, also of Transylvania County (at least two children of Wiley's were born before his marriage to Martha "Mattie" Nicholson). His wife of record was Martha "Mattie" Nicholson.

In 1900[1] and 1910,[2] Wiley was living with his parents and siblings in Hamburg Township, Jackson County, North Carolina. His father, Rufus Galloway was a farmer.

According to his draft registration card (12 Spetember, 1918), Wiley was short, of medium build, with brown eyes and hair. Apparently, either Wiley's first wife had died or they were not together by this time as he listed his nearest relative as Conrad, his son.[3]

A marriage record exists for only one of Wiley's wives. Wiley married Martha Mattie Nicholson on 1 March 1919 in Jackson County.[4] She was the daughter of John D. and Martha Nicholson.

Like many Transylvanians, Wiley and his family moved west, Washington), usually for jobs in the logging business. He shows up in Snohomish, Washington, in the 1920 census with his wife, Mattie, and and three of this children.[5]

According to his death certificate, Wiley was stuck in the head with a stone on 16 March 1931 in Glenville, Jackson County, resulting in his death on 19 March at C. J. Harris Community Hospital in Sylva, Jackson County. His death was ruled a homicide.[6] He was buried at Lake Toxaway (Lakeside) Cemetery on 30 March 1931 where many of his family was interred.[7]
