Mrs. Martha Patricia Kenny death which occurred on Wed, Oct 28th, at the residence of her daughter Mrs. E. E. Taylor, Cathcart-street, Lismore. The late Mrs. Kenny was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Geraghty. Born on the South Coast 78 years ago, she came with her parents to Boatharbour, Richmond River, at the age of 14, where with them she endured the many hardships of the early settlers. In 1880 she was married to the late John Kenny at Lismore, who then went into the general black smithing and wheelright business at Kempsey, where he predeceased her 38 years ago. Some years later the late Mrs. Kenny and her young family returned to Lismore, where she resided until the time of her death, which was due to pneumonia contracted in July, and from which she did not fully recover. The family of three sons and three daughters who survive her are Messrs. Jack (Toowoomba), Jim and Tom (Lismore) and Mesdames P. J.Daley (Ballina), E. E. Taylor (Lismore), and H. Smith (Casino). Mesdames J. Bryant and T. Healy, the only surviving members of the Geraghty family, are sisters of the deceased. The funeral cortege which moved from St. Carthage's Cathedral was a large and representative one, and many beautiful wreaths were received. The Rev. Father Geisen officiated at the Cathedral and graveside. There are still some Kempsey residents who well remember Mr. Kenny not only as an excellent tradesman but also as a citizen who took a keenly active interest in the progress of Kempsey, then a newly formed Municipality.
