His good friend Bishop Doane ,got him in hot water for atime. Doane was building a landmark new church. When funds ran short ,Doane asked for some money. Reuben had charge of a New Jersey Episcopal Trust Fund,He loaned Doane 's Church some without proper Paperwork. Forgiven in the long run Reuben moved to Buffalo.

An undated letter written by R. J. Germain (probably this profile) to a Charles B. Germain says that his grandfather Silas' children by his first wife, a Sutherland, were Silas, Peter, Reuben and Obadiah (b 1765). He labels this "conjecture" but it's unclear whether he's referring to her last name at birth or to the children.

This letter goes on to name Silas' children by his 2nd wife, a Vail, to be Isaac b.c. 1776, Morris(?) b.c. 1779, Sara b.c. 1771, James b. 1783 (he states that this is a fact), Stephen, and perhaps two other daughters. He also says he's uncertain about the birth order of Isaac and Morris(?).

He refers to his Uncle Obadiah, which would be German-524.
