In his (Joseph Scales) will recorded in Guilford in 1774, he named his wife, Mary and fourteen children.Since his wife outlived him by 29 years, it is assumed that she was his second wife.Mary left a will dated 7 June 1803, which is recorded at the Rockingham Courthouse.At her death in 1804, she left the 200 acre tract of land to Nathaniel.Even though it is felt that Joseph and Mary are buried on the land, no cemetery has been found.[1]
FindAGrave lists two wives: Mary Fox (no dates) and Mary Gibson.
There has been much discussion if the last name of Joseph's wife is Fox or Gibson, or if he had two wives. There is no parental information found for either Mary.
Since the two profiles: Fox-32 and Gibson-14505 had the same death and birth dates, the merge was approved.
