Magnus Gilbertsson was born about (calculated date), to Gilbert Magnusson and an unknown wife.^[1]Also see research note 1.

He succeeded his father as Earl of Orkney and Caithness in 1256.

Research Note

1) The Orkneyinga saga in Scandinavian translations usually ends with bishop Adam being burned around 1222. The English translation used as a source might have some other information added from elsewhere than the original saga.
