Chillicothe Constitution Tribune, Chillicothe, Mo July 7, 1924
Death of Mrs. McClellen Mrs. James R. McClellen of West Calhoun St., died Saturday night having been an invalid for almost three year; she was confined to her bed a greater portion of the time. Last Wednesday afternoon she was stricken with the first stroke of paralysis which completely paralyzed her right side, including her throat and organs of speech; she continued to recognize those near her until early Thursday morning when a second stroke paralyzed her left side and left her unconscious. She lingered in this unconscious state until Saturday night.
Mahulda Elzora Gillaspie was born September 13, 1851, near Middlebury, Indiana. She came to Missouri with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Gillaspie, when she was three years old. The trip was made overland. They settled at Springhill, which was the metropolis at that time of Livingston county. She spent her girlhood in the northern part of Livingston county. Early in her life she united with Zion Baptist church near Springhill. She was a charter member of Zion Church. After moving to Chillicothe, she transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church, in which she was an active member up to three years ago, when she became too ill to leave her home. During her illness she has always taken an active interest in the affairs of the church. She was also an active member of the local W. C. T. U. She is survived by her husband, two sons, Ray and Irl, her daughter, Mrs. E. A. King and her brother, John Gillaspie of San Luis Obispo, California. The funeral was held from the First Baptist Church at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon, Rev. W. H. Brengle officiating. Burial in Edgewood cemetery.
