Janet was born to a large farm family and her terrible asthma was aggravated by pollen so she left and lived in town where she was set up as a dressmaker. Janet Reinke Jenkins remembers stacks of Delineator magazines piled in her garret which she used as patterns for her sewing.

Family tradition has it that Janet and Elmer met in an adult Sunday School class at the local Baptist Church. She had planned to make her own wedding dress, but fire destroyed the fabric she had purchased, so she instead wore a dress that was gray striped. The dress was later worn by her daughter Docas during her reenactment of the story of the founding of PEO. (See Dorcas’s picture.)

Mrs E Mekkelson returned this week from Faribault Minnesota where she spent Easter with her daughter,Mrs Reinke. (Amery Free Press, May 2, 1935)
