Biography

Joshua was born in about 1790 in East Greenwich, Kent, Rhode Island, USA. He was the son of Joshua Godfrey and Mary.

His father died 12 January 1808, and his will mentions his minor son Josuha, appointing his mother Mary as guardian.

When Joshua was about 23 he married Martha Curtis Whitmore on 4 November 1813 in Killingly, Connecticut.

"Godfrey Joshua, of this town, and Martha C. Whitmore, daughter of Jesse, of and at Killingly, CT." ^{[1] [2][3]}

In 1824 according to a city directory Joshua (age about 34) was living in Providence, Providence, Rhode Island. He was listed on Charles St as a Jeweler. ^[4]

In the 1850 census Joshua (age about 60) was living in Providence, Providence, Rhode Island, with his wife Martha (age 55), and their son Edward (age 14). ^[5]

In the 1865 Rhode Island census, Joshua (age 75) and his wife Martha (age 70), are living in Providence with their son-in-law Charles E R Page (age 34), their daughter Fanny E Page (age 32), and their granddaughters Annie S Page (age 15) and Emily F Page (age 10). ^[6]

Joshua died at the age of about 79 on 10 July 1869 in Providence, Providence, Rhode Island. ^[7][8] Joshua was buried in the North Burial Ground in Providence, Providence, Rhode Island. ^{[9] [10]}
