Schimen was born January 4, 1882 in Slonim, Grodno, Russia.[1]
His parents were Solomon Golinski and Dina (Zeldin) Golinski.[2]
Schimen married Muscha Wawanizky in January, 1909 in Slonim, Grodno, Russian and they had at least one child[1]
(see Notes).
Schimen was probably a tailor (shown as sailor), when he left his pregnant wife in Slonim to immigrate to the United States. He departed May 15, 1909 from Hamburg, Germany aboard the SS Pennsylvania and arrived May 29, 2909 in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States. His final destination was the home of his brother-in-law David Harris at 298 (?) Avenue in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States. Schimen was 5' 6" tall, with brown hair and brown eyes.[3]
He was known as Sam Dolin in the United States
In 1910, 27 year old Sam lived at 228-230 Henry Street in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States in the home of his brother-in-law Abraham Lichtman (age 28), sister Pauline Lichtman (shown as Pauly, age 26), and their children Sara (age 5), Leba (age 3), and newborn Harry. Abraham was the proprietor of a cleaning store and Sam was a tailor in a tailor shop.[4]
Sam was reunited with his wife and son when they arrived in the United States in 1921.[5]
In 1925, Sam (age 44) and Mamie (age 40) lived at 125 Forsyth Street in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States with son Sidney (ag 14). Sam was a tailor.[6]
Sam registered his intention to become a United States citizen April 6, 1932, but his petition was denied February 27, 1933.[1]
Sam again filed his declaration of intention August 4, 1937, when he lived at 70 Forsythe Street in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States with his wife Mamie and son Sidney (shown as Sinna). He was a tailor, 5' 6" tall, weighed 160 lbs., with gray hair and brown eyes.[7]
The second time, Sam's petition was approved and he became a naturalized United States citizen April 24, 1940. He was still a tailor, living at 70 Forsythe Street in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States with his wife Mamie and son Sidney (shown as Sinna). His petition was witnessed by Jacob Schwartz, a tailor living at 523 Van Siclen Avenue in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States and Max Dolin, a furrier living at 97 Pulaski Street in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States.[1]
In 1940, Sam (age 58) and Mamie (age 55) paid $20 per month rent for their apartment at 70 Forsythe Street in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States, where they lived with son Sidney (age 29). Sam was a presser in a tailor store and Sidney was a ticket seller for a bus company.[8]
Sam lived at 70 Forsythe Street in Manhattan, New York, New York, United States when he registered for the World War II draft April 25, 1942. His wife was shown as Mamy, and Sam was unemployed. He was 5' 6" tall, weighed 175 lbs., with gray hair and brown eyes. He was partially bald.[9]
Sam died February 19, 1960 in Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States.[10]
