Biography

Catherine was born in 1865.[1] She is the daughter of John Cook Gooda and Sarah McCann. She passed away in 1947. She is buried in the Warialda General Cemetery, New South Wales.[2]

In 1887, Catherine married Joseph Wallis.[3] They had 10 children.

Kate (the late Mrs. Joe Wallis), a daughter of Jack Gooda, was an exceedingly fine horse woman. Riding the old side-saddle style she could put a horse through scrub or ride a bucking horse as well. As such the old hands spoke of her. [4]

Mrs. CATHERINE WALLIS
After being confined to bed for the last six months Mrs, Catherine Wallis, relict of the late Mr. Joseph Wallis, passed away late yesterday afternoon at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Jas. Lucas, in Warialda, at the ripe age of 82 years.
Until they returned to Warialda about seven years ago Mr, and Mrs, Waliis had lived on their property, "Kurrajong," near Boomi, for a long period. They had only been here abont six months when Mr. Wallis passed away, and for most of the time since then Mrs. Wailis had lived with her daughter, Mrs. Lucas.
She leaves a family of six sons and two daughters, viz., Mrs, Neville Wright (Goondiwindi), Mrs, Lucas (Warialda), Messrs Joseph (Goondiwindi), Malcolm (Goondiwindi), John (Bega), Len (Tara, Q.), George (Sydney), Allan (Mungindi), Another son, Clifford, was killed in action in the 1914-18 war The funeral will take place this afternoon.[5]

"six of his [John Gooda] second marriage children were born at Limestone, two of these reported as dying and buried there. They were William born 20.4.1869, buried 21.4.1869 Jane born 17.12.1870, buried 24.12,1870."[7]

Limestone is a locality adjoining Wallangra in the District of Warialda.
