Biography

James Henry Gowdey was born on 24 December 1839 in Westport, Connecticut, to John Gowdey and Magdalene Van Buren Russell. [1] (Note: the birthplace is incorrectly indexed as West Post. It is given as Hartford, Connecticut in Gowdy's A Family History... [2] and elsewhere as Westbrook, Connecticut.)
