Biography

Jane (Green) Stanfield was born ca 1789 in Person Co., NC. She was the daughter of Lewis Burwell Green and Elizabeth Caddell.

Jane married John Washington Stanfield on 25 September 1810 in Person County. The co-bondsman was Durrett Stanfield. D.C. Townes witnessed the marriage bond.[1]

Property: 13 Jun 1814 • Person Co., NC John Stanfield and Jane Stanfield his wife (in debt to Andrew E. Wood for $100 bond) to Robt Vanhook, trustee, for 25¢. 90 acres where Stanfield now lives on Double cr of Hyco.[2]

Property: 8 December 1817, Person Co., NC. John W. Stanfield to John Stevenson of Granville Co., for $425, 90 A on Double Cr adj. James Williamson, James Jay, Abraham Hargis, heirs of Lewis Green. Wit: Daniel Gooche, William Watson, Samuel Forsythe.[3]

Property: 26 Jan 1821 • Person Co., NC. Samuel Forsyth of Granville Co. to Jno. Stanfield for $150 due on notes and a credit of $120 plus other notes; 200 acres on Double Cr of S Hico, conveyed by said Stanfield and John Stephenson to Forsythe. Formerly property of Lewis Green dec'd and [devised] to his two daughters, Jane Stanfield wife of John Stanfield, and Barbara Stephenson, wife of Jno. Stephenson. Wit: Edmund D. Stanfield, James Forsythe. (Note: Other important information in the deed. Watson-2385 10:03, 1 January 2024 (UTC) )[2]

See Probate records of Lewis Green d. 1794 thru 1798 in Person Co., NC, who leaves wife Elizabeth and two young daughters Jane abt 7 years old who married John Sandfield?, and Barbary age 5. Lewis' wife was Elizabeth Caddell who later married Elijah Watson. In 1835 there was also a dispute about the inherited lands between John Sandfield and John Stephenson (did he marry Barbary Green?).
