Biography

Elizabeth J. Gregg[1][2] was born circa 1837 in Ohio.[1][2] She moved with her parents Nathan Gregg Sr. and Susannah Roughton when they moved from Ohio and settled in Cass County, Missouri, between 1842 and 1845.[3] She grew to maturity in Cass County, Missouri.

Elizabeth married Bradford Lewis on 19 Dec 1858 in Cass County, Missouri, as Elizabeth Gregg to Bradford Lewis.[4] They were the parents of one child:

  1. Lorinda, born in Nov 1859

She appeared with Bradford Lewis on the census taken on 3 Jul 1860 in Sugar Creek Township, Wadesburgh, Cass County, Missouri, as Bradford Lewis, age 40, male, white, farmer, real estate valuation $200, personal property valuation $100, born in New York; and Elizabeth Lewis, age 23, female, white, born in Ohio.[5]

Probably about 1868 she married Andrew Jackson "John" Maupin. They were the parents of the following children:

  1. Andrew Thomas "Drew"
  2. John
  3. Annie
  4. Howard H

Her second husband, Andrew Jackson "John" Maupin died Jul 5 1892.

She applied for a pension on Aug 17 1908, under the name of Elizabeth Maupin, for her first husband, Bradford Lewis', service in companies D and E, Cass County, Missouri Home Guards..[6]

She died in 1931 in Cass County, Missouri.[7] She is buried at the Parker-Gregg Cemetery in Creighton, Cass County, Missouri.[8]

Research Notes

Elizabeth can be confused with her cousin of the same name, daughter of Isaac, born about the same time also in Ohio. Also, Isaac and his family, including Elizabeth, moved to Missouri about the same time that Nathan and his family moved there.
