Note N00261This Theophilus resided in Sandown. The History of Hampstead records the baptism of John, son of Theophilus of Sandown on May 25, 1757 at Hampstead.

Hammond's Revolutionary Rolls show (27)Theophilus Griffin aged 50 and (33)John Griffin aged 19 in Capt. Hezekiah Hutchin's Company, Colonel Reed's regiment, in 1775. Batchellor's Revolutionary Documents lists as residents of Sandown signing the Association Test of 1776 to defend the colonies against the British, the following Griffins (Grifen's) Theophilus, Peter, Thomas, Moses, and Richard. Apparently John Griffin went to Northwood to live after his marriage June 8, 1775. It should be noted that there was another Theophilus Griffin, who was a resident of Derryfield and sergeant in general Stark's army in the Revolutionary War. There was also a third Theophilus Griffin who was born in Amesbury, Mass. and resided in Deerfield. These three Theophilus Griffins were probably cousins of varying degrees. (Griffin Genealogy)
