Biography

Birth and Parents: Martha Edna Grimes was born on 04 December 1881 in Texas.[1][2] She was the daughter of Haywood Pinkney Grimes (1841-1918) and Elizabeth (Holman) Grimes (1855-1904).

Marriages:

  1. Martha Edna Grimes and Elijah Reed Terry were married on 30 December 1896 in McLennan County, Texas. W. H. Davis, Justice of the Peace, performed the rites.[4] They were the parents of at least six children, Elijah Reed Terry died in 1920.
  2. Martha married H. H. Johnston. This marriage probably took place sometime between 1930 and 1940.

Martha was enumerated in both her father's household (on 9 June as Edna Grimes) and in the household with her husband and daughter (on 16 June as Edna M. Terry) on the 1900 United States Census. Her marital status was married on both records and both records stated she had been married for three years. There was no explanation on either record as to why this was done.
