Biography

Birth and Parents: Georgia Ann Grimes was born on 17 November 1882 in Texas, United States. Her parents were Haywood Pinkney Grimes (1841 - 1918) and Elizabeth (Holman) Grimes (1855 - 1904).^[1] She does not appear on any census records with her parents.

Marriage: Georgia Grimes and L. C. Griffin were married on 24 December 1899 in McLennan County, Texas:^[2][3]

By 1910 Georgia was a patient in the North Texas Hospital for the Insane. As far as can be determined, Georgia spent the remainder of her life institutionalized as she was residing there in the 1910, 1920, 1930, and 1940 censuses and she died in the same hospital.

Death and Burial: Georgia Ann (Grimes) Griffin passed away on 29 January 1965 at Kerrville State Hospital in Kerrville, Kerr County, Texas. She was 82 years old.^[1] She was buried in Post Oak Cemetery, Roane, Navarro County, Texas.^[9][10]

Research Notes

I have not been successful on finding much information on Georgia's husband. She is described as a widow in the 1910 and all subsequent census records.

She was the mother of two children, according to her obituary. Her children bear surnames which indicates Georgia may have been married twice or had a relationship with someone other than L. C. Griffin or perhaps this child was adopted by another family. I believe the last of these ideas is the most likely but I cannot prove it.^[9] Research is ongoing.
