David (Habour) Harbour is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A051358.

David was born in 1758. He passed away in 1846.

David was born about 1750. David Harbour ... He passed away about 1846.

Parents: Abner Harbour (1730-1778) and Joyce (Thronhill) Harbour (1732-1798)

Spouse: Esther (Cronk) Harbour (1760-1849)

Siblings: Moses Harbour (1755-1835), Thomas Harbour (1774-1870)

Children: Mary (Harbour) Reynolds (1784-1853), Richard Harbour (1787-1858), Benjamin Harbour (1797-1874), Naeman Harbour (1800-1870), and Sarah (Harbour) Pedigo (1803-1892)

David was born in 1758 probably in Lunenburg County, Virginia where his grandfather settled when he came from Wales[1] He married Ester Crunk on 6 July 1783 in Henry County, VA,,[2] and some trees say they had as many as 14 children. There are 9 children listed in the book above.[3] On the 1820, 1830, and 1840 censuses they were in Patrick County, VA., living most of their married life there. He passed away in 1864 and is buried in the Old Harbour Cemetery in Patrick County.[4]

The book, The History of Patrick and Henry Counties Virginia, had this to say about David: "David Harbour, born in 1769 (believe this was a typo, that it was meant to be 1759) was the grandson of Thomas Harbour. By his superior intelligence and natural ability, he was far in advance of his time, and, like all leaders, suffered some of the consequences of leadership. It was said of him in after life that he favored the mother country as against the colonies, and seeing that he was only seventeen years old at the beginning of the Revolutionary War, and was charged with the care of his father's family, it was not strange that he was in favor of order as opposed to violence. The British Government had never oppressed him or anyone else so far as his knowledge extended. This shadow followed him through life, preventing all public preference, but in the light of our wider vision it is doubtful whether he made or lost by its existence."

Also noted in this book is the fact that one of his grandchildren carried the name Ester Crunk Harbour.

Research Notes

There is another David Harbour, living about the same time, that seems to live in Montgomery County, VA, because he buys land there and marries Mary Spurlock there in 1787.
