Charles was born in 1879. He was the son of Jefferson Hagler and Sarah Grammer. He passed away in 1954.

"SIU CARPENTER DIES AT 74 Charles M. Hagler, 74, 819 S. Marion St., Carbondale, for 28 years a carpenter at Southern Illinois University, died at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Holden Hospital after an illness of 10 days. He retired from SIU in 1950, where he had been employed since Sept. 1922. He was a member of the Grace Methodist Church. He leaves sons, Harold and Raymond of Carbondale; Alvin of Gulfport, Miss.; Vernon of Cincinnati; daughters, Mrs. Connie Hopkins of Clinton, Iowa; Mrs. Beulah Connor of Ridgway; Mrs. Gladys Bittler of Clinton, Iowa; sisters, Mrs, Hattie Mosley of Carbondale; Mrs. Ollie Blankenship of Herrin; Mrs. Effie Crowell of Carbondale, and Mrs. Cora Britt of Little Rock, Ark. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Grace Methodist Church, the Rev. Milton Connett, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the Huffman Funeral Home in Carbondale after 1 p.m. Friday."
