Biography

Mary (or Polly) was the daughter of Martin Hammack and Susan Ellison. Kanawha Co Death Records list her as Mary Jarrett-45 yrs. d. Aug 30, 1855 b. Elk River parents: Martin & Susanna Hammack husband: Jacob Jarrett (informant).

Their marriage date is listed in Wintz, Julia, compiler., Kanawha County Marriages January 1, 1792 to December 31, 1869. (McLain Printing Co, 1975), p. 48. Married by John H. Power.

1847, April 22: Kanawha Co, VA/WV: JACOB JARRETT and POLLY (MARY) on list with other legal heirs of Martin Hammock selling their rights to land left them by Martin Hammock, dec'd. Land was located on Elk River, North side being upper end of survey of 429 acres patented to Wm Griffith. 100 acres were deeded to Martin Hammock by George Alderson. Indicates that wife Polly's maiden name was Hammock. Other heirs (Polly's siblings) were Wm and Sally Hammock, Charles and Elizabeth Cavender, James, John, and Andrew Hammock, Nathan and Rachel Jude, Presley and Cintha Vineyard, St Clair and Susan Summers. These are the only children I have found for Mary and Jacob. Mary died 5 yrs. later at the age of 45.
