Abraham is shown in the 1850 census record as son of Jacob and Mary (Hammack) Jarrett, age 8 (b. 1835-36). His mother died 5 years later and his father disappears from Kanawha records and so does Abraham. Two of his siblings moved to Cass Co, IN.
Consider that his age (18) on 6-18-1861 (b 1842-43) and that he enlisted in Kanawha Co, matches his birth year and approximate location in the 1850 census, it appears possible that Abraham enlisted in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. The following information is from Find A Memorial# 17238814 for Pvt Abraham Jarrett
Ironically, most of the Jarretts from the Elk River area-including his cousins- who enlisted in the Civil War did so on the Union side so it would be bucking the trend for this Abraham to enlist for the Confederacy.
