Biography

Ephraim was first noticed in Nottoway Co, Virginia on the 1801 State Tax List as a single man. And again in the same county on the 1810 census with a wife and two young sons. He is not seen again until 1830 on the Abbeville Co, South Carolina census with a larger family and again on the 1840 census. Sometime afterward he moved to Russell Co, Alabama and is seen making his will 25 Sep 1848. He died before 1850 as he is not on that census. His family moved to be with him at his death. Then afterward went separate ways.

His will written 25 Sep 1848 in Russell Co (Now Lee Co), on 1 Nov 1849 , Wm. Jarrell (son-in-law), James H. Hampton (son), and Elizabeth Kirk (His Will named her as the mother of his son James H. Hampton) - (all named in will) signed an order paying $100 from estate - Ephraim died between date of will in 1848 & Nov 1849. Probate completed by Ira Britt on 01 Mar 1851. He died with his family present. His children remained in Russell Co, Alabama a short time and then left.
