Death is estimated to be 1861 or early in 1862. In Connie Gibreath Belcher's book on the john Hampton family of Lawrence County, page 70, " in the Probate Court records of Lawrence County, May Term 1862 through Dec Term 1862, there were several entries regarding the estate settlement of W.E. Hampton, dec., James H Basham, administrator." I have not yet found these records online, and need to contact the archives in Moulton or Montgomery to see if they are available.
