Susan was born in Tranmere, Cheshire, England in 3Q 1868, to Edward Hanlon and Anne Hanlon (or Ann Finigan) from Ireland. [1]

In the 1871 England Census she is listed in Cheshire [2]

In 1891 at Rock Ferry, Cheshire, England, Peter Paul Sheehan married Miss Susan Hanlon, and nine children were born.

About 1910, Mr Paul Sheehan migrated to New Zealand. Subsequently in November Susan Sheehan and the family of 9 children followed him on the Turakina, which departed London 24 November 1910, arriving Wellington 10 January 1911 via Cape Town and Hobart. [4] [5] .

The family settled in the North of Auckland, with Paul working first at Limestone Island off Whangarei, and then at the Portland cement works.
