Biography

Rebecca Harlan was born August 14, 1773, in London Grove Township, Chester county, Pennsylvania, a daughter of David Harlan and Alice Starr. On June 14, 1798, by Ceremony of Friends (Quaker Meeting) at Deer Creek, Harford county, Rebecca married John Carter, born May 19, 1773, in Chester county, Pennsylvania. John died May 14, 1805, in Philadelphia and is buried there. ^[1] Children of Rebecca and John are:

• John Carter, born November 28, 1800, died June 3, 1877, married Sarah Shoemaker on July 8, 1834

• Henry Carter, born April 18, 1804, died April 1, 1896, married Mary Ann Jackson on March 3, 1826

Rebecca died November 7, 1819, and is buried in the Arch Street Meeting House Burial Ground, at Arch and 3rd Streets, in Philadelphia. ^[2]

Researchers Notes

After Rebecca's father, David's death, her mother, Alice (Starr) Harlan went to Hartford county, Maryland to live with her daughter Rebecca (Harlan) Carter. Alice died there about 1798 and was buried in the Friends' Burying Grounds at Deer Creek Meeting House. ^[3]
