Susan (Hartnett) Cottam was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)
Biography
Susan Hartnett was born in 1848, the daughter of Edward Hartnett and Ellen Coyle. Her birth was registered at Yass, New South Wales, Australia. [1]

Tragically her mother passed away when the children were only young. In June 1852, Gundagai, NSW was hit by a severe flood which claimed the lives of one third of the inhabitants of the town. According to the family history related to Ellen's great grand-daughter, Ellen went outside in the night during this period to look for a cow and was never seen again; she is presumed to have drowned in the flood.[2] Her father remarried and they had eleven children:

Susan married Ralph Cottam on the 6th June 1869.[3] Not all of their children lived to adulthood, they included:

Susan passed away on the 30th January after a painful illness aged 64. She is buried in the Tumbarumba Cemetery.[4][5]
