Elizabeth was born about 1772. She was the daughter of John and Mary (Pendleton) Harris.
In about 1789, she married George Lumpkin Smith. He is the brother of her 2nd husband's 1st wife. They had a farm in Buckingham County where they had 6 of their 7 children.
In the early 19th century, they decided move to Tennessee with some other relatives and neighbors. They settled in what is known as Smith Fork Creek, in Wilson County. They grew corn and tobacco. They then moved to a the "W. H. Tribble place", which was 1 1/4 miles from Smith Fork Creek.
After her husband died in 1826, she eventually re-married in about 1840 to Charles Rich. He passed in 1856. She lived until 1861 and was buried in the Prosperity Cemetery next to her second husband.
Op. cit., www. genealogy.com/ftm/r/i/n/William-P-Rinehart-TX/WEBSITE-100/UHP-0842.html. “In the fall of 1810, following a bad crop year, a group of neighbors in the Vaughn Creek section of Prince Edward Co., across the Appomattox River from Bent Creek area, decided to move westward to Tenn. Edmund Harris and John Harris, cousins of Elizabeth, both grandsons of David Harris, a brother of Thomas Harris of Prince Edward Co., had already settled there in 1806 and were writing back of fertile soil and promising country available. The group was composed of Meadors, Hawkins, Harris, Gillam, Patteson, Woodson and others. In this wagon train were Elizabeth Harris, her husband, George Lumpkin Smith and their children. Also in this group was James Gilliam, his wife, Frances Hopkins (See Gilliam family history) and several of their children including their daughter, Martha T. Gilliam, who married Gideon Harris, the great nephew of our Thomas Harris of Prince Edward Co. We are indebted to Gideon Harris and his mother, Elizabeth who preserved the family history left by Thomas Harris.”
