George Hastings son of Henry Hastings of Woodlands in Dorset and his wife, Dorothy Willoughby, was born about 1588.[1] He was studying at Middle Temple by 1610. [1]
On 27 June 1614 at Iwerne Courtenay he married Alice Freke, daughter of Sir Thomas Freke [2] and his wife, Elizabeth Taylor, she carrying £2500 to the marriage.[1] The were parents of 3 sons, one of whom died in George's lifetime, and 3 daughters. [1]
George was knighted on 5 November 1615. [3] In 1621 George and Nathaniel Tomkins were returned unopposed as members of Parliament for Christchurch and in 1624 they were both preferred over John Eltonhed, another Middle Temple lawyer. [4]
Alice died in 1634 and was buried at Christchurch on the 24th of July. [5] George did not marry again.
He did not succeed his father until 1650 when George was in his sixties, and he died the following year on the 25th of October.[1] He was buried at St Wolfrida in Horton.[1]
