Biography

Bill was born in 1963 in Greenville, South Carolina. Due to his father's employment in the textile industry, he moved throughout the Carolinas during his youth, including Myrtle Beach, SC; Red Springs, NC; Fayetteville, NC; Franklinton, NC; Morresville, NC; and Fort Mill, SC.

After graduating from St. Andrews University (Laurinburg, NC), he headed west to the Bay Area, completing theology studies at the Graduate Theological Union (Berkeley, CA)/ San Francisco Theological Seminary (San Anselmo, CA). Following an internship year in Seoul, South Korea and serving as a youth minister in San Franciso, he headed west again to complete Asian Studies at the University of Hawai'i (Honolulu, HI). Not content with his education, he pursued Sociology at the University of California (Berkeley, CA). Finally satisfied with his "truth search," he received employment at Gonzaga University (Spokane, WA) and has been enjoying life as a Sociologist-turned-Criminologist for the past 18 years.

In between the academic life, he found time to marry and raise a family, including two wonderful Jindos, and he believes he'll be working on that journey for many more years to come. Due to his academic and personal life, he has been able to travel and teach in Florence, Italy and Seoul, South Korea, along with visiting many other locations around the world. All in all, not too shabby for a Sandlapper!
