Private Luther Hayward served with Colonel Mitchell's Regiment, Massachusetts Line during the American Revolution.

Luther was born on September 5, 1758. He was the son of Elijah Hayward and Silence Snell.[1][2]

In March of 1776, Luther marched from Bridgewater to Braintree with the Continental Army.

On December 12, 1785, Luther married Bettie Willis in Bridgewater.[3][4] Together they had 4 children: Luther, Eliza, Nahum, and Nathan.[5]

After his wife died in 1793, Luther remarried. His intention to marry Raney White of Marshfield was recorded in Bridgewater on August 30, 1794.[6][4] They did not have any children.
