son of Howland W. W. Head (1834-1916) and Arminda Woolley (1837-1913)]; m. at Dillon, Marshall Co., Iowa, February 23, 1881, Harriett Russell, b. in Delaware Co., Iowa, October 9, 1860, dau. of Wellington Russell and Fanny Bliss Bryant of same place.
In March, 1869, Pardon Head's parents moved from Whiteside Co., Illinois, to LeGrand, Iowa, and in the fall of 1870 his father bought a farm of 160 acres in Greencastle twp., Marshall Co., Iowa.
He attended the country schools in Illinois and Iowa, also three terms at the Friends Academy and two terms at the Seminary in LeGrand, Iowa.
The first year after Pardon was of age he worked a farm on shares and in the fall made a trip to South Dakota. The next spring, 1880, he, in company with his father and brother, went to Marshall Co., Kansas, with cattle. In the winter he returned to Iowa and was married and took his bride to Kansas, where they lived on a rented farm the one year, when he sold his cattle and came back to Iowa, living on a farm north of Liscomb, in Hardin Co., Iowa, five years. In the spring of 1887 he moved to his father's farm in Greencastle twp., Marshall Co., Iowa, and lived there four years and in the town of Gilman, Iowa, one and one-half years, when he bought the farm where they now [1915] live in Liscomb twp., Marshall Co., Iowa, near Liscomb, and named it Shady Lawn Farm.
Harriett Russell was born on a farm near Earlville, Iowa, and her parents moved to Waterloo, Iowa, when she was but ten months old. She attended the public school in East Waterloo and one term at Iowa College at Grinnell, after her parents moved to Dillon in 1876. She taught three terms in the country schools of Marshall Co., Iowa.
They had six children: 359.—Herbert Russell Head, b. August 18, 1883. 360.—David Mason Head, b. March 19, 1886. 361.—Emily Head, b. April 30, 1887. 362.—Anna Head, b. September 20, 1889. 363. Mary Bryant Head, b. at Shady Lawn Farm, in Liscomb twp., Marshall Co., Iowa, April 25, 1892. She attended the country school and graduated from the high school of Conrad, Iowa, in 1910. She taught five terms in the country schools of Grundy Co., Iowa, and will enter her senior year this fall [1915] in the Physical Education Department of the Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, Iowa. 364. Everett Pardon Head, b. at Shady Lawn Farm in Liscomb twp., Marshall Co., Iowa, March 17, 1899; d. at same place of purpura hemmorrhagia, October 20, 1903."
