Biography

Mamie Helms was born 1 March 1903 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, to C. L. Helms & Lula (Phillips) Helms.[1][2]

When Mamie married Daniel Hagler, son of Frank Hagler and Eliza Hagler, on 18 December 1920 at the home of J P Flow, Justice of the Peace, in Clear Creek, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, she was only 17 years old although she is recorded as being 21 according to the Marriage Register.[1] Her mother had died two years earlier, leaving her as the oldest daughter at home. Her father had already remarried[3] and family lore is that the children did not like the new wife.[4]

Daniel and Mamie had three children, DC Jr., Dilly, and Louise.[5][6]

Mamie died on 4 July 1988 in Huntersville, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, though her usual residence was Concord, Cabarrus County. She was buried at Dulin's Grove Advent Christian Church Cemetery.[2][7]

Completed Helms-723 and Helms-177 appear to represent the same person because: The name I had for this person was based on an article from "The Monroe Enquirer" dated Thursday, November 3, 1960, Section B, "Our Heritage - The Helms" by Ney McNeely. A cousin just let me know that her name was really Mamie. Please check my data against your records and consider a merge if they are matching people. Thank you
