Biography

1776 Project
Private John Herrick served with Essex County, Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolution.

John was born in 1756. He was the son of Edward Herrick and Mary Kimball. [1]

John was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. In the state of Massachusetts alone, eleven men named John Herrick are listed in "United States Rosters of Revolutionary War Soldiers and Sailors, 1775-1783."[2] Most, but not all of the soldiers, are listed with their town of origin. The entry for John Herrick, Andover, states that he was a private, serving with Captain Benjamin Ames's company of Minute-men, Colonel James Frye's Regiment, which marched on the alarm of April 19, 1775; service, 7 days; also, same company, return of men at Cambridge, May 17, 1775; also, same company, return dated Oct 6, 1775, an order for a bounty coat or its equivalent in money was dated Cambridge, Nov. 14, 1775.

John married Mary Lawrence in 1782. [3][4]

They lived in Beverly, Massachusetts. [5][6]

John passed away in 1820.
