Macleay Argus 12th November 1890 Child Drowned from the Wharf:-
The usual quiet of Kempsey was broken on Friday night abput 10 o'clock by a fearful screaming & the cry that a child had fallen in to the river between the Ship Belmore & the wharf. Numbers of perons rushed to the spot to find that little Olive May Hickson was drowned, & that her mother narrowly escaped the same fate in her frantic efforts to save her. The following facts were brought out at the inquest which was held at the Royal Hotel Central Kempsey on Sarurday morning before the Coroner Mr John Ducat.
