Jewell M. Hildreth was born on 05 July 1895 in Alabama United States, probably in Coffee County.[1] She was the daughter of Henry Walter Hildreth (1869-1933) and Lillie Ann (Skipper) Hildreth (1872-1963).
Jewel was enumerated in the household of her parents on the 1900, 1910, and 1920 United States Censuses. On all three, she and her family were living in Coffee County, Alabama.[2][3][4]
Jewel was married to Dove Johnson on 26 June 1921 at the home of her parents in New Brockton, Coffee County, Alabama. The Rev. H. C. Childs performed the wedding ceremony. Afterward a description of the small, but lovely, wedding appeared in the Southern Star.[5]
Jewell and Dove Johnson were the parents of at least two daughters--Rosalyn (Johnson) Ham (1927-2013) and Mathalyn (Johnson) Farris (1931-2019).
When the 1930 United States Census was taken, Jewell was working as a clerk in a grocery store. She and her family were living in the area designated as the Victoria precinct in Coffee County, Alabama.[6]
When the 1940 United States Census was taken, Jewel and her family were still living in the Victoria Election Precinct of Coffee County, Alabama.[7]
Jewel, her husband, and one of her daughters were living in the town of Elba in Coffee County, Alabama when the 1950 United States Census was taken. Jewel had become an elementary teacher at a county school.[8]
Jewel's husband, Dove, passed away in 1962.[9]
Jewell (Hildreth) Johnson passed away on 03 December 1981. According to Social Security records her last place of residence was in Kinston, Coffee County, Alabama.[1] She was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Elba, Coffee County, Alabama.[10]
