Henderson was the son of William Hill (Slave owner) and Mary Abbott (Slave) Making his last name Hill. Mary was a slave owned by Elisha AbbottAbbott-9337 she was given to William Hill and Elizabeth Abbott who was the Daughter of Elisha. She lived on the Plantation of Richard HillHill-44460 the brother of William Hill with her son Henderson and Daughter America until the death of Richard Hill, she was then sold along with America, and Henderson was given to his Aunt Sarah Sallie Cox Hill (Simmons) and her husband Masten Bell Simmons This is how Henderson's last name was changed from Hill to Simmons.
