Biography

Ruth Hindle was a daughter of Thomas Hindle, surgeon, and his wife, Martha Beckett, baptised at St Mary Magdalene, Campsall on 4 April 1806. [1] She married Edward Walshaw at St Michael and All Angels, Thornhill on 15 April 1827. [2] They had at least three children before his death aged thirty. He was buried at St Michael and All Angels on 11 February 1832. [3]

Ruth remained a widow for eight years then in 1840 she married farmer, George Sanderson who, like Ruth, had been born in Norton. The marriage was registered at Doncaster. [4] Their first home was in High Field Lane, Womersley. [5]

In 1851 they were farming 90 acres at Campsall Grange by which time they had had three children together. [6] Ninety acres was not enough for George and in 1861 they were at Barnsdale, Campsall farming 150 acres. [7] Still evidently ambitious George had moved his family to Askern where he and Ruth were farming 200 acres with their son, Thomas in 1871. [8]

Ruth died in 1880 aged 73. Her death was registered at Doncaster. [9]
