Michael (1674-1749) emigrated and was probably not sorry to leave behind him the continuing family disputes. His parents Wilhelm Hinneschied and Anna Maria geboren (born) Balter had had eight children. The great family misfortune was the early death of Wilhelm in the very year of the French invasion. He was a lapsed Catholic, his wife a Lutheran, who brought up her children in her faith. With the support of the French and a degree of reason, Franciscan monks claimed half of the family for conversion to Catholicism, taking the four younger children away from their mother. After a period of indoctrination they were returned to the farm. At least three married within that faith and brought their spouses home. The consequences were very troublesome. First, the Hof was soon overcrowded with the adult children and their off spring. Secondly, religious differences became a constant source of bickering and quarrels.

Michael was very closely involved with the local Lutheran congregations in Hunterdon County, and for many years was "der älteste in Rochaway”, leading elder in the Rockaway Congregation, around Potterstown. He was not a placid or docile creature, but had a fiery temper. The three principal disputes of his tenure involved the pastors Falckner, Wolff and Weygand. The first came to a head because he dismissed the aged and feeble Daniel Falckner whom he found going home from Sunday service inebriated and singing in 1731. This caused a furore in the church. Secondly, both he and his son Casper were among church representatives sued by the notorious Johann August Wolff in suits lasting from 1737-1747. The expenses were heavy because this difficult parson, who married a local farm girl, actually won in an arbitration the back-payment of his salary, although he had consistently neglected his pastoral duties. In the late 1740s Michael belonged to the faction which opposed calling Johann Albert Weygand to their church.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Michael by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Michael:

His bio says, "These children settled in Hakensack in Monmouth and Sussex counties some went to New York." There is no place called Hakensack, but there is a Hackensack, and it's in Bergen Co, not Monmouth. Is that line intended to mean, Hackensack and (somewhere else in) Monmouth County? And which of the children settled in Hackensack (or Monmouth, for that matter)? I see no mention of either place in William E Hendershot's genealogy.

Perhaps those kinds of details should be left to the profiles of the individual children, anyway, rather than in this profile--unless it's somehow an important element of his biography (like if Michael purchased the land for them, etc.).

I believe Hendershot-Henneschiedt-1 and Hinneschied-1 are the same person

Parents names are the same birthdates are the same All FOUR wives names are the same (I think all four of these need merged too) Children's' names are the same (but there are already two sets of children in the other profile, so these children will need merged also)

Hendershot-375 and Hendershot-Henneschiedt-1 appear to represent the same person because: Wives names are similar, children's names are similar. Neither have good sources, but both appear to be the same person found in the history of the Hendershot family that can be found in the St. Clairsville LIbrary in Belmont County, OH

If these are merged, the arborist may need to clean up the children because each child seems to have two profiles also

Hendershot-44 and Hinneschied-1 appear to represent the same person because: same name dates and family

Hinneschied-2 and Hendershot-44 do not represent the same person because: THESE 2 MEN ARE SHOWING 2 DIFFERENT FATHERS. YOU ARE SKIPPING A GENERATION. JOHANN MICHAELS FATHER IS JOHANN HINNESCHIED WAS BORN 1640, AND HIS WIFE WAS ANNA --- BORN 1640 GERMANY.
