Biography

Ralph was born in 1736, the son of John and Elizabeth Hobill. He was a grazier and fellmonger living in Shearsby, Leicestershire [1].

He married Susannah Meadows on 9 Dec 1770 at Shearsby[2]

Ralph was a voter in the 1775 election of a Member of Parliament for Leicestershire. He voted for John Peach Hungerford [3].

In 1820 he was one those signing the Loyal Declaration in support of Government policies following the events at Peterloo [4].

He passed away in 1821 and was buried in Shearsby on 5 September [5][6].

In his will, written in 1817, Ralph names his grandchildren as Elizabeth Read, Susannah Read, Thomas Read, John Read, Ann Read, Mary Read, William Read and Ralph Hobill Read. Nephew John Hobill of Littlethorpe and niece Grace Weston wife of Thomas Weston of Shearsby [7].
