There is a record in the Franklin County, Virginia courthouse of Catherine Hoss' note to the clerk saying that she was of age and could write her on "consent" to be married. It is curious that they were married in Virginia since the Hosses had settled in Washington County, Tennessee prior to this. The copy of this note was in the family records of Dr. Blair Dillard Erb.
