Biography

Thomas Houghton was born in 1861 in Lancashire, England, the son of Mary (Whitehead) Houghton and William Houghton.^[1][2][3][4] The birth was registered in Chorlton, and he was baptised at Hulme, St George, Lancashire, England.

Thomas emigrated to Australia as a child with his parents and brother on the "Southern Ocean" in 1863.^[5]

He married Mary Helen Sherwood in 1888 in Victoria.^[6][7][8] Their children were:
