Biography

Lizzie (Howard) King is a part of US Black heritage.

Lizzie (Howard) King was born in Tennessee.

Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Howard was born in about 1850 in Bedford County, Tennessee. Her husband, George W. King, served in Company A, 16th Regiment, United States Colored Infantry. Following his discharge the couple moved to nearby Tullahoma, Tennessee where they married on November 4, 1869.

As a direct descendant of this couple I am in the process of reviewing their Civil War Pension File. I'll add appropriate bio notes and citations as that process continues. Please message me before making changes to their profiles.

Names - Records in the couple's Civil War Pension File shows that George W. was often referenced as Washington or Wash. Similarly, Elizabeth states that she recalls being called Amanda Elizabeth prior to the time that she was sold away from her family as a child, but she clearly states that she prefers being referenced as Lizzie. [References to those specific pension file documents will be added.]
