Biography

Born in Ipswich 10 June 1764. Married in Nov. 1785, Hannah Marden. They had four children:

  1. Jacob Howe, b. 17 Mar 1787
  2. Samuel Howe, b 17 Mar 1787 (twin), died young
  3. Abigail Howe, birth date unknown, married Moses Cheney of Thornton, New Hampshire and lived in Epsom
  4. Abraham, birth date unknown

Hannah died 11 Nov 1803 in Epsom, New Hampshire. He married second, 5 Feb. 1805, Sallie Knowles, born in 1771. David was a soldier, and a pensioner of the Revolutionary War. He was in the battle of Brandywine and served under Capt. Putnam's Company in Col. Woods Regiment. He died in Epsom, New Hampshire 10 Oct. 1840.

“Howe, David, Ipswich. Descriptive list of men raised to reinforce the Continental Army for the term of 6 months, agreeable to resolve of June 5, 1780, returned as received of Justin Ely, Commissioner, by Major Peter Harwood of 6th Massachusetts Regiment, at Springfield, July 6, 1780; Age 16 years; stature, 5 ft, 8 inn., complexion light; engaged for the town of Ipswich; Arrived at Springfield July 5, 1780; marched to camp July 6, 1780, under command of Lieutenant Taylor, of 2d Massachusetts Regiment; Also, List of Men raised for 6 months service and returned by Brigadier General Paterson as having passed muster in a return dated Camp Totoway, October 25, 1780; Also Payroll for 6 months, men raised by the Town of Ipswich for Service in the Continental Army during 1780; Marched June 26, 1780; Discharged December 5, 1780; Service 5 months, 21 days, including travel (240 miles) home.”[1]
