Biography

Mark was born in 1813, most likely on his father's farm just outside of the old Howell Township, Patrick, Virginia.

He was the son of Samuel Howell and Lucy Witt.

On 23 February 1837, Mark married Elizabeth DeHart in Patrick County, Virginia.[1]

In the 1850 census, Mark (age 38), Farmer, was in Southern District, Patrick, Virginia, United States.[2]

Possibly John's birth?: An [as yet] unnamed son, born 31 July 1854.[3][4]

In the 1860 census, Mark (age 47), Farmer, was in South District, Patrick, Virginia.[5]

In the 1870 census, Mark (age 57), Farmer, was in Dan River, Patrick, Virginia.[6]

In the 1880 census, Mark (age 67), Farmer, was the married head of household in Dan River, Patrick, Virginia, United States.[7]

According to Mark's death certificate he passed away from old age on December 30, 1885; his wife was listed as Betty, his father was stated as Samuel Howell and the informant was listed as [his son] John Howell.[8]
