On 29 September 1744, James married Mary Rolfe, daughter of Henry Rolfe and Hannah Topan, in Newbury, Massachusetts. [2]
The couple had the following children, born in Newbury, Massachusetts:

James Hudson served during the American Revolution.
Captain James Hudson served with Essex County, Massachusetts Militia during the American Revolution.
He was captain of the Marine Society in Newburyport, which was very active in putting the town in a state of defence, by sink piers in the rviers and planting fortifications about its mouth. [3][4] He was also involved with Patriotic Service, as he wa a member of the Committee of Safety in Newburyport as well.
Captain James Hudson died in Newburyport, aged 74, in November 1792. [5]
