Around 1850 Minerva married William Edward Wood in Marion, Arkansas. In 1855 Minerva gave birth to their son George Edward Wood. In early 1857 her husband William joined the Baker-Fancher Party[2] on the wagon train headed for California.
Minerva chose not to go because she was pregnant. The well organized group figured on getting resupplied in Salt Lake City. However the Mormon church was under martial law and the party went onward without supplies. They camped at the Mountain Meadows to rest. There in September 1857 Mormon millitia attacked and murdered all adult members including William, of the Baker-Fancher party and took all their possessions including small children.
Back in Arkansas the widowed Minerva Jane Wood married Joel Baker Northcott around 1859. Between 1860 and 1863 Minerva gave birth to their three children in Sugarloaf, Arkansas. The 1870 census shows them living in Sugarloaf. Then they moved to Texas. The 1880 census[3] shows Minerva Jane Northcott raising her family in McLennan, Texas. But alas. Death loves a shining mark and it came. Interment was made in the Calf Creek Cemetery. She leaves a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren to mourn her loss.
